The moon shone bright as he drew us both near
To murmur to us what would soon be clear

TRIBE CHRISTMAS PARTY 2008!!!!!!!!

It's the MOST wonderful time of the year.....yes..folks...just IMAGINE me singing! The party left us with with joy in our heart, a bad beard rash ( Drift's Santa beard was fake....I know it LOOKED authentic), and a bad case of heartburn.... I was guzzling the eggnog! We can't tell you how THRILLED we were to see you there...and hope that you had a BLAST! For those of you who couldn't make it....you were MISSED! Some of the highlights of the evening were the very soulful Maximillion Kleene, who played some super smashing great hits...one of which was "Angels" By Robbie Williams. After singing....you KNOW you were.... and boogeying to the tunes, we did something never attempted before by TRIBE ISLANDS!!!!DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!!!! We had the TRIBE BIG BOUNCE! Ummm...for those who are thinking....BIG BOUNCE???? HUH???? I know what you're thinking....we all bounced on a bed....right? Well, not quite...so....close your eyes .... you can open them in a sec...and imagine more than 60 people bouncing about on hoppers, out in the yard...over to the church and then ..for a giggle....some of you peeps (readjusts halo) TP'd right over to a sex place. Imagine the delight and surprise of the people at the sex place! Why....they had never seen such big bouncy balls in all of their lives!!!!! Anyhoo....back to the party! After all that excitement, we had the pleasure of having the funkmeister himself, Dexter Ihnen, play for all of us. Dexter thrilled us all with his rendition of " Very Superstitious" and of course, the fabulous Dexcelerators delighted us as they danced and grooved to the tunage. The evening was truly a delight for us and we DO want to thank each and everyone of our FABULOUS TRIBE NATIVES! We TRULY do have the best bunch of residents around!!!!!! Tribe Islands Video Update & Linger

Hi Everyone, you are probably aware that we were in the process of producing a Tribe Islands video and had done a fair amount of shooting for it. Unfortunately the person that was doing the video is no longer able to.

However we are in the process of commissioning someone to produce the Islands video and will have news of this within the next few days. So watch this space!!

In the meantime I have been diving into Imovie myself to have a play and I have cobbled together my first Machinima!! I thought I would share it with you guys....I adore the song.........stick with it.....it does get better as it plays. It is my first attempt but I would love to hear your comments....but be GENTLE!!!!!

THE BIG BOUNCE IS HERE!!!!!!!!!

OK IT IS MAD - BUT IT IS TIME!!!!!

Today we attempt to set an SL World Record for the most people bouncing simultaneously on one SIM!!!!!!

Here is the running order and details.

Max Kleene Will be Playing From 3-4pm slt (This Guys is a TRIBE Fave!!)

At 4pm slt approx, the stream will switch over to our very own Driftwood Miles and his attempt at DJing!!

Drift will also give instructions on the BIG BOUNCE!

At the same time  Alexxa Despres (nee Clause) will start giving out the Christmas Gifts to all the WELL BEHAVED children amongst you!!!.

Only 200 of these special edition balls are being given out!!!

They are specific to our RECORD ATTEMPT!!

FEELING OS-TRACISED!!!!? (I know!!!!!)

Recently all over the world there has been the feverish sound of hundreds of people hammering away on their keyboards. The force used in the said task has been comparable to that employed in the damp dark rooms deep inside the Tower Of London during the reign of QE1. On these occasions, subjects of the Queen sought to facilitate the divulgence of information from other subjects. A kind of latter day brain storm!

In this case however, the cause of such keyboard abuse has not been dissimilar. Basically the overwhelming desire of so many people has been to express their delight at the recent Linden Labs Open Space Sim announcement!! And probably, more importantly, a cry out for information that, hopefully, will lead to clarification. Ergo WTF is going on!!!?? Pages and pages of rant, conspiracy, considered opinion, dribbling and the odd (very odd) mispost about the purchase for $L0.20 a share stock in a Chicken Wholesaler, have bulked up the SL Forums. It has been a truly remarkable outpouring.

However, it would seem that the effort has been for naught as aside from adding a spoonful of sugar to a rather expensive and foul tasting tincture (thanks Marypoppins Linden), there has been little re-positioning or indeed information from the Lab. Maybe it’s time to crack the thumbscrews out of the museum. In the absence of anything substantive from the lab, the OS situation and particularly the way in which we the customers can effectively act and or plan remains shrouded in pixelated fog.

On a lighter note I did have a rather large laugh to myself when I saw the following Open Space Sim all crisply wrapped for abandonment with a lovely gift tag message which was, in balance fairly clear!!

Hey all you jolly Tribers!

Let me introduce myself, I’m Nakeisha or Nake as most people call me. I am and have been an addicted Tribe member for a long time now and before I start my ramblings I would like to thank Alexxa and Drift for their beautiful islands, one of which I call home, and for giving me the opportunity to share with you one of my passions… Thanks, you guys rock!!

Like me have you ever faced that issue of where to go in Second Life? Have you wasted hours roaming SIMs for that perfect romantic spot or found yourself looking attractively grey unable to rez due to the enormous lag overload? Well join the club I’ve been there many times!

I am known to be an avid explorer and LM collector within my group of SL friends and soon found that I became a “where to go” resource. It became apparent that a guide was needed for people to find and experience the best without the tedium of trial and error. I sadly discovered the search option within SL lacking in several areas and was often disappointed in the results, being at the top of the list doesn’t necessarily indicate the best place. So the idea of www.MySLPlaces.com was born, a travel guide to Second Life places to help new and longtime avatars alike find those unique and enchanting locales. Here you will find reviews written by myself and other avatars like you describing in detail the amazing SL destinations we have found, loved and think are worth visiting. TM Photo Magazine Launched!

One of the newest magazine to hit SL is being launched by one of Tribe's very own....Etan Matfield. Gracing the cover of the launch issue is none other than his lovely partner, Issy Telling! OPEN SPACE SIM UPDATE

Well, at last we have clarification on the new pricing with reference to Open Space Sims. We also have the Introduction of the new “Homestead” Sim. The new sim is designed to cope with Light Residential or Light Commercial use, exactly as we have used OSS since day one.

I will try and simplify as best I can as to how it affects Tribe Residents. However if you need more details please follow the links below.

For Those That Just Want Some Light Entertainment

Firstly, all of Tribes Open Space Sims can now be classed as the new “Homestead” sim so in short that means type of use will not change. We will not be dropping the sims performance by leaving them as Open Space Sims.
There may be a script restriction and there will be an avatar restriction of 20 avatars per sim (at one go). But in truth having monitored open space sim use since we introduced them , this should, apart from one of our sims, not be an issue with “Homestead” sims. These changes will not be implemented until January 5th.
There is no need for anyone to do anything……all will be handled by Tribe and there will be no physical changes in your sims.

Open Space Sims will have their prims reduced to 750 and the performance will have “throttles” applied.

So to summarise, ALL Tribe Open Space Sims can now be classed as “Homestead” Sims and there is no change to prim allowance or land size. So if you lived on an open space sim yesterday you don’t today 


The Prices
On the “Homestead” Sims there will be a phased in increase per sim as follows.

January 5th 2009 there will be an increase of rent/tier of $20 per sim (Homestead)
July 2009 there will be an increase of rent/tier $30 per sim (Homestead)

The following applies to existing Residents.
As we promised, there will be NO increase at all for “Homestead” (OSS) residents until February 1st, even though Linden Labs increase their prices to us on January 5th.
Also the increase will not be fully passed down to our residents. The rise in February will be in line with Linden Labs increase. However Tribe will absorb 50% of the price increase. Therefore for a whole sim there will be an increase to the resident of $10, Tribe will absorb $10 also. Likewise if you own ½ an Island the price increase will be $5 and ¼ Island it will be $2.50.

As far as the July increase is concerned the same method as the January increase will apply. With Tribe again absorbing 50% of the rise.

As we have said before we will offer equivalent transfer to a full prim sim if any resident requires. The prices paid for the OSS land they bought will be honoured. However we need to have made those transfers before the 22nd of December. We cannot transfer after that date.

The increases do not effect those on Full Prim Sims.

As far as the original LL decision goes , Tribe was as outraged as many people were at the huge hike in costs proposed for January 5th. The reasons behind the hike are also hard to fathom. However, they have in many ways changed their approach and although it is really only a “sugaring” of the pill…..the phasing in of the increase makes for easier decision making.

Hopefully this makes things a little clearer. We thank you for being the fab people you are and hope that you can understand our position. We, at all times put our residents and the Tribe community first. New President...New Hope!

Today we can look at the United States in a new way…bold new frontiers…barriers broken…and steps taken towards a different America. While the phrase ‘historic election’ has been used repeatedly, in my opinion, that phrase dilutes the ‘whole’ of it. It is estimated that 64% of Americans will have exercised their right to vote…weathering long lines, broken voting machines and sometimes even weathering…the weather! Moreover, for the first time ever, America has an African –American in the White House! America’s people have spoken : Change is what is needed to grow and improve for the better. Now is the time to make promises into realities and to come together as a nation and as a people. I am hopeful that as we look towards the horizon, we see a compassionate America, an America that reaches out to the World and works with other nations to benefit all nations, and an America that we can ALL be proud of.

LINDEN LABS OPEN SPACE CHANGES

Hi Everyone,

You may or may not be aware (those that have been on mars for the week :P ) that Linden Labs has made the monumental announcement that they intend to hike the cost of Open Space Sims by 66% effective of 1st January 2009.
This has caused a huge outrage with Second Life residents and as there are around 13000 Open Space Sims out there that means that pretty much everyone is affected in some way shape or form.
This has already led to the abandonment of Open Space Sims by Landowners and Residents alike. A lot have introduced the price rises already. Come January there will be a lot of Estate Failures due to the hikes. And there is likely to be a big shift away from Open Space Sims back onto full prim Islands.
So how does that affect Tribe and you our residents?

Firstly, we are going nowhere and assure you that our residents are our first priority.

Secondly, if the price increase is in fact confirmed for January , Tribe will only introduce a partial price increase on Open Space Sims and absorb the balance internally. There will be no price changes before January . However please note the increase is NOT yet confirmed and Tribe are fighting the cause against the increase as vigorously as possible!

Thirdly, there will be No price changes on full prim Islands.

If the price increase is implemented , for those that want to relocate we will offer any Tribe Open Space resident relocation to an equivalent Full sim parcel and we will honour any ownership claims of that resident at no extra cost.

Finally, although this is a bombshell from our Lord and Masters at Linden Labs there is still much hope that, if they don’t reverse the decision completely they at least could soften the blow. So nothing is set in stone as of now!

Your interests are foremost in our minds and we will do all that we can to ensure minimum disruption. Please feel free to put your thoughts and comments on this issue we will reply to all comments.

Well Done ALEXXA!!!!!!! Well Done Tribe!!!!!

Over the weekend just passed Alexxa completed a 60 mile walk (20 miles per day) in aid of Breast Cancer. The walk started in torrential rain on Friday and finished pretty much the same. The walkers were spared the need to pitch their tents in horizontal rain and were given accomodation in a long abandoned office complex. Having managed to survive a night which contained some frightening noises of which Alexxa can only assume was peoples sleep noises and no more than a chipped nail (oh my god, so precious)it was off into the beautiful Sunshine for Saturdays 20 miles. Night two was tented, and having enlisted the help of two maths professors and a team of buff labourers they managed to pitch said tent only two hours after unpacking it! Having been Hushed up last year by nearby tent occupants and Der Gestapo because of childish raucous behavior AFTER lights out! Alexxa and her tent buddy (not sure who that was) were better behaved and managed not to scramble into the local downtown area on a beer and bloke binge. By all accounts snoring from the tent was kept at acceptable levels.
The last day started similarly to Saturday weather wise and although there was a long slog to the lunch break...Alexxa and this remarkable group of people made it safely to the end!!
We are all VERY proud of Alexxa and hope you are to....especially when I tell you that she was unable to train for this until almost 4 days before the walk because of a damaged Achilles, and only made it through the walk with copious amounts of teeth gritting and pain killers!!! Well done Alexxa!!!
A HUGE thank you also has to go out to all of our Tribe Residents who supported this endeavour!! In all, Tribe Islands donated $200 (real dollars) to this worthy cause...YOU GUYS ARE FANTASTIC...SO THANK YOU FROM ALEXXA AND MYSELF!!

Credit Crunch - Stick or Bust

With the US financial house of cards close to collapse and the likelihood of the aftershocks dragging exchanges from Tokyo to Paris tumbling after it , is the Bush Bail Out the best hope for salvation? More importantly however what does the general public think should happen?
Should Tax Payers worldwide be forced to pay for the excesses of the gorging Humpty Dumpty like Banks or should they be left to their great fall even though it may mean long term hardship for Tax Payers.

*Put decaf in the coffee maker for 3 weeks. Once everyone has gotten over their caffeine addictions, switch to espresso.

* In the memo field of all your checks, write 'For Marijuana'

* Finish all your sentences with 'In Accordance With The Prophecy.'

*Skip down the hall rather than walk and see how many looks you get!

* Order a Diet Water whenever you go out to eat. Maintain a serious face!

* Specify that your drive-through order is 'To Go.'

* Put mosquito netting around your work area and play tropical sounds all day.

* Five days in advance, tell your friends you can't attend their party because you have a headache.

Exercise in Second Life!

Okay…so I just read an article about a study that the University of Houston is conducting in real life on Second Life. Do have a look at the article…I encourage it! To summarize….they are doing a study to encourage real life (RL) people to develop healthier eating habits and healthier exercise habits. How, you might ask? The avatars will participate in SL by choosing fruits and veggies (versus that terribly fattening pixel doughnut) and…better yet, the avatars will be exercising on SL treadmills. I calculated that if you exercise on a SL treadmill, it will burn approximately 9 calories per hour. Upon further calculation, typing for an hour will burn approximately 32 calories. Cyber-sex …well…the statisticians are still trying to figure that one out!!! (I suspect they are having WAY too much fun with their research to EVER give us an answer! ) You might be wondering…. how are the researchers motivating these avatars to participate? The Texan research team will reward the avatar with lindens…for walking on a treadmill, riding a bike and for trying new ‘good for you’ foods. Oh…and as a bonus…the participants will also get the opportunity to compete as a team where they will earn points for their behavior. ( Sounds like ‘Big Brother’ meets ‘The Biggest Loser’ to me) . I have to say…I am a bit skeptical. How in the world...this world or any other world for that matter.... are the researchers EVER going to be able to get a TRUE reading on the results? I suppose they are counting on the people who participate to be 100% honest. ( Hmmmmm.. .that’s a whole other study in and of itself). I find it all very well-meaning but very misdirected. After all, let’s think this through. I am not an expert, but I am willing to bet ALL my lindens, that exercising in RL beats the pants off exercising in SL….well…as far as calorie burning goes any way!!! My real question in all of this is this: if I have 4 RL doughnuts and eat 7 servings of SL fruits and veggies plus ride my bike for 1 hour and spend another 30 minutes on the SL treadmill…and do that EVERY day for one week…will I truly lose weight….or just perspective? Beijing & The Olympic Hope

Watching the spectacle that was the opening ceremony for the 29^th Olympiad in Beijing China, I was filled with an uplifting feeling of joy and excitement. A smile as broad as a Cheshire cats spread across my face. Not just for the spectacle before me (although that canvas was indeed awe inspiring) but by the hope, the joy of the Olympic spirit. The sense, that here was a beacon for the good in humanity.

Memories of that Arrow lighting the Olympic Flame in Barcelona, Muhammed Ali in Atlanta the Sydney Harbour Bridge , Athens… all happy memories came flooding back.

In a more and more cynical world with tensions and tragedies filling our media in a constant stream. I am totally unashamed to say that I was happy to embrace the respite and feeling of hope that the Olympics offered for the two or so hours of the ceremony and I am more than happy to continue being proud of human achievement and endeavour for the next sixteen days and to enjoy the memories that will bring a smile to my face for many years to come. Yes, the Olympic Ideal has it’s flaws , commercial pressures , political agendas, doping within the sports. But is this not a force for good in our world? Are the Olympics evil? Do they destroy countries, cause wars, Famines? Spread Hiv/Aids? Religious sectarianism , fundamentalism? No, is the simple answer. So, I have to question the motivation of those who would want to boycott or who feel the need to hijack the Olympics as a platform to express their protestations at the evils in the world. By all means protest and protest loudly, but do it directly. Yes, I can understand that the Olympics give a wonderful platform for getting “the message across” but it hangs like a cloud over the one event that has the ability to lift those clouds that so fill our skies and bring nations together. To show us the possibilities, to educate our kids as to the beauty of human kind and its capacity to come together in peaceful and friendly competition.

As for this Olympiad?? Grab it…hug it …hold it dear……it is by nurturing the good that it holds in it’s ideals that we can build a wonderful platform for good, for us, our kids and the future of our planet. It has GOT to be worth it!! It’s not perfect, like the UN but it is a beginning!!

SEX..SEX..and MORE SEX in SECOND LIFE!

I have chewed on this subject for the past week and I have decided that while the subject is indeed tasty, I need to have a more varied flavor. THAT, my sweet readers, is where YOU come in! After watching the video on ‘The Morning Show’…the one with Kevin Alderman , aka Stroker Serpentine, I find myself being drawn to the part where his wife speaks about how she feels about her husband ( er…that would be Stroker) having a relationship with Fire ( his SL wife) and his obvious discomfort when he is asked, “Are you in love with Fire? ” The wife defends her position and claims she is a-okay with Stroker not only engaging in (and er…enjoying ..if you catch my drift) cybersex but she is okay with him being in love with his SL wife as well. If you feel like you have been dropped smack dab in the middle of “The Jerry Springer Show”…. join the club! So…this leads me to my question: Is cybersex “Much Ado About Nothing” or is it more like a real life “Romeo and Juliet? “

On the one hand (yes…go ahead…groan…obvious pun intended), I have heard some people’s opinions who think of cyber sex as nothing more than a bit of fun, a harmless flirtation, a duet of safe sex and excitement. On the other hand, I have been told by people that in their opinion, cybersex is a betrayal of trust, an infidelity, an obvious straying outside the boundaries of a committed relationship. I have read and heard different opinions about the matter…ranging from the contention that cybersex increases a person’s libido and as a result it is GREAT for the relationship. On the flip side of that…. some people opine that cybersex is not only a form of physical infidelity but worse still, it is emotional infidelity. There seems to be plenty of grey area, haze and a general fogginess on this whole issue. The fact of the matter is this: the lines HAVE become blurred .So I began to question and I wanted to see what YOU think! (POLL is right next to this post) Come closer....that’s it…just a bit closer….as you are about to get a peek into my brain! ( YIKES!!!! ) Here are some of my questions : For instance…if your significant other knows of your dalliance…is it okay? If you just talk in a sexually explicit manner but do not reach orgasm…is that ok? If you become attached emotionally…is that the benchmark to be used to label it as cheating? If your relationship with the person behind the avatar takes time away from your RL spouse or s/o….is that then cheating.? In this world of Super size meals, instant gratification, and feeling good about yourself…. do we want the best of BOTH worlds? Is online sex mere fantasy or very much a reality?
