TRICK or TREAT?

I was out buying my annual Halloween candy today... and I always have such a hard time finding the PERFECT candies. After all, I want to be the most POPULAR candy giver in the neighborhood! It got me to thinking: how does everyone else around the world celebrate Halloween? It's HUGE here in the United States. I read a statistic that was staggering! Over 21 million dollars is spent on Halloween candy every year! Halloween is the holiday with the 3rd largest number of parties annually next to Christmas and New Year's Eve. So come on, enlighten me, how do YOU celebrate Halloween?

I saw this video the other day for the first time and was amazed at how the numbers add up. To think, here we are in 2009 and there are still children going hungry. You do the Math and see how easy the solution REALLY is. Something to think about.

Philip Linden's BIG ADVENTURE!

The news rolled out late last night that Philip Linden is starting a new company!! Philip stated, " It's a big idea - something that actually depends on Second Life existing to get started, and that I have been thinking about almost as long as I've been thinking about Second Life. " So while we don't have the particulars, I am excited to see what this visionary has in store for us! He has a new island called 'P Squared' , which he sees as his extended space for his work place. Along with the new island comes an open invitation for anyone to visit. (CLICK HERE ) Keep your eyes on this spot and as we get the skinny on Philip Linden's new project, we will post it here!

PHILIP ROSEDALE INTERVIEW

Phillip Rosedale gets around! Have a peek at this brief interview at a Journalism Summit in Washington to see where Second Life is headed...in the words of Philip Rosedale!! I always find it interesting to see the real people behind Second Life being interviewed not only for the questions asked but the nuances of his body language. I can't decide who looks more uncomfortable, the interviewer or the interviewee!

PLAYBOY MAGAZINES NEW COVER GIRL!

Well, you know you have really made it as a sex symbol when you get to be on the cover of PLAYBOY magazine and none other than the infamous Marge Simpson has been chosen for this prestigious honor! PLAYBOY says they are looking to attract the 20-something crowd and I have to wonder, Marge Simpson??????? Nevertheless , she is as iconic as the IPOD Touch to 20- year olds but not half as user friendly. On second thought, it must be the blue hair that is the deal sealer!

YOKO ONO OPENS IMAGINE PEACE TOWER IN SECOND LIFE

"On Friday 9th October 2009, Yoko Ono was in Iceland (in the real world) for the annual lighting of the IMAGINE PEACE TOWER.

Later the same evening, at 10.30pm (Reykjavik time), Yoko unveiled a new IMAGINE PEACE TOWER in Second Life, an online virtual world."

IMAGINE PEACE TOWER UNVEILING SPEECH
by Yoko Ono Lennon

All spirits of goodness of this magical land, of the planet, and of the universe,
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for witnessing our humble gathering
For the unveiling of IMAGINE PEACE TOWER.

They say, if all the people in China were to jump up and down at the same time,
The axis of the globe would shift.

Well, we are here together. Billions of us.
Standing at the dawn of a new age determined to shift the axis of the world to health,
Peace and joy by loving and caring for all lives on Earth.

Some of us are here physically, some are joining us in spirit.
Some of us are imprisoned, tortured, maimed and silenced, but they are also here today with us.
Some of us have passed away before being able to enjoy a new age of love and peace.

But we are all here today standing together with hope.

The light is the light of wisdom, healing and empowerment.

Even in the moments of confusion, fear and the darkness of your souls,
Hold the light in your hearts,
And you will know that you are not alone,
That we are all together in seeing the light of peace.

I thank the people of Second Life, for giving so much love to this tower from its inception.
IMAGINE PEACE TOWER was visualized with love, and realized by love.
It is a gift from John and Yoko and the people of Second Life to the world.
I know that John is with us, too, in this land of Nutopia,
happy that the light tower is finally a reality after 40 years.

Let’s make a wish as the light goes on.
Let’s send light to each other and say I love you!

John, we love you!

Seond Life & Social Networks

Last week Twitter was given the hefty valuation of $1billion and this before it has become profitable. The social networking site boasts a huge audience and although Twitter won't release official numbers, its website has over 30 million unique monthly users, plus more on its mobile and smart phone services.

The buzz is all about Social Networks, and for good reason? Social networks apart from providing huge numbers of eyeballs on webpages also sort people into groups of
common interests in hobbies, religion, politics, buying trends etc etc. This is a marketeers dream and is highly valued in dollar terms if it can be tapped.

Second Life, which incidently is in profit, needs to access this phenomenon and some form of integration into the SL client and/or website is called for.

With the Lab currently working on a new client and with the introduction of the new secondlife.com it must be hoped that Linden Labs have their sights firmly fixed on Social Networking Integration (SNI). If it is the case that LL are working hard along these lines then, if successful, a very bright future is in prospect for the Lab and Second Life.

The Places We Will Go!!!

When I first came into Second Life a friend suggested I go visit the "Lost Gardens of Apollo" to get a feel for the potential of SL.
Well I was not disappointed then and I was not disappointed again today when I popped over to remind myself of those early days of stubmbling around (I was sober).

The Lost Gardens are a delicious mix of Classical history and romantic bliss. Towers reach for the Gods and below imposing column walkways.

If I may suggest, a tour on foot is your best bet to really get the feel for the sim. Then a fly around to see the splendid views.

And if it is guys looking for brownie points....take your gal ;)

Secret Second Life

A very interesting and thought provoking movie. Looking at the effect of Second Life on a Real Life relationship from one perspective.
The movie features real actors as well as avatars and it raises questions about fidelity and addiction in a virtual world, in this case Second Life.
What constitutes addiction, what constitutes infidelity?

OH THE PLACES WE GO!!!!!

Mont-St Michel is a small rocky island about 1km from the north coast of France at the mouth of the Couesnon River in Normandy.

The mount is best known for the medieval Benedictine Abbey and steepled church that occupies most of the 1 km diameter clump of rocks jutting out of the waters of the English Channel.

Now, it has been faithfully reproduced in Second Life by Moeka Kohime on the sims Edelweiss and Mont Saint Michel.

It is a stunning piece of work and well worth a visit. Having been to the Real version years ago, I can only say that the SL version brought many memories flooding back at every turn. The build has an "atmosphere" all of its own from the grand church atop the Mont to the shops in the narrow walkways.

So if you want a taste of Northern France and European History take a limo over to see a very impressive addition to Second Life.
